Members of the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) in Mangochi at the weekend celebrated two years in leadership and governing position following its victory in the 2014 historic tripartite elections. Pic Sellah Singin Speaking during their two-year anniversary celebrations which took place at Mangochi Secondary School ground on Saturday, DPP Regional Governor for the Eastern Region, Charles Jika said they organized the party as one way of creating togetherness among party members. “This party is meant to celebrate with people we have been working with since 2014 when we held the general elections. It is also part of thanking everyone who voted for Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika into office and the mighty DPP,” Jika said. Speaking at the same function, DPP District Governor for Mangochi, Salire Mdala concurred with Jika on the celebrations saying it was a sign of gratitude to supporters. Mdala, therefore, asked people to work hand in hand with those who have defected from other political parties and joined the DPP. Speaking earlier, Group Village Headman Mapira thanked President Mutharika and the DPP – led Government for providing maize in all Admarc depots in Mangochi. During the celebrations, the party welcomed about 250 people who have defected from other parties and have since joined the ruling DPP.

The US Embassy has invited Maltese youths between the ages of 16 and 18 to apply for the 2016 Benjamin Franklin Transatlantic Fellowship. The Fellowship workshops will be held in the United States this summer. The program honours American statesman and diplomat Benjamin Franklin, whose life and career strengthened transatlantic cooperation. The purpose of the initiative is to foster relationships among young Europeans and Americans, to promote freedom globally and advance shared values. About 45 Europeans and 10 Americans will participate in an intensive, three to four-week exchange focused on common challenges that youth on both sides of the Atlantic face in the 21st century. The U.S. Embassy will fully fund one Maltese participant. Those interested should contact email@example.com for more information. The deadline for nominations is March 4, 2016.
